Jane Eyre

A Five Star Pick

Yes, I know this one is a classic and quite old, but perhaps that is one of the reasons I love it so much.  The story has a Gothic tone to it, along with romance—can there be anything better?  Most of you know the story of Jane Eyre who is hired as a governess in Mr. Rochester’s mysterious mansion.  She teaches Adele, who is known to be under Mr. Rochester’s care ever since the child’s mother had died.  The feelings that are felt between Rochester and Jane are undeniable, yet something eerie in his house keeps them from getting close, even after he professes his love for her and asks for her hand in marriage.  The secret that is eventually revealed will change Jane’s decision about staying with Rochester—or will it?  This novel is one of my favorites because it is Victorian Literature with a taste of the “thriller” element.  The story is written in a way that captivates your attention and makes you want to find out the mysteries in Rochester’s abode.  If you haven’t read it yet, it should be on your reading list.
