The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Book vs. Movie

If you like philosophical questions and interesting relationships, this book is worth reading.  You also have to love the way words flow—as if they themselves are a character in the story.  This was another title I had the pleasure of listening to as an audiobook.  It really is a deep thinking book about life, and how important some people become in one’s life.  The movie is filmed in French, but there are English subtitles.  I actually really liked the way everything was portrayed in the movie.  The producers also took the liberty of being very creative visually.  For example, I really loved the way Paloma’s drawings take over the film—you even see an example of this on the DVD cover.  Naturally, you get a deeper understanding between the characters in the book version, and the movie does change a few things (one of them being the method of suicide chosen by Paloma), but overall a satisfying rendition.  I even agreed with the actors for the characters.  A job very well done.

  1. I would like to be a creative writing professor, but I can no find out exactly what they do. I love to write, and to help other people become better writers, so that is why I want to become a creative writing/english professor. Does this fit with the profession? What is the life of such a professor like?.

I am not a creative writing professor, so I would not know the answer to your last question. If you are interested in doing this kind of work, I think you have to have some kind of certificate proving that you have done some creative writing courses. If you live in Montreal, I know there is a Creative Writing program at Concordia University. Also, you can ask The Quebec Writer’s Federation
(http://www.qwf.org/contact.html) about some suggestions to help you along with your inquiry. Otherwise, if you wanted to teach creative writing by yourself, without any documantation, you could go ahead and try—but most people who take these kinds of courses would like to know that the person teaching them has had something published. Hope this helps to answer some of your questions.
